Yang Taijiquan Student Canon
A Progressive Study of Internal Skill
The Yang Taijiquan Student Canon is organized as a progressive course of study rather than four independent collections of Taijiquan information.
Each volume begins with conditions established in the volume before it. The progression moves from building the internal body, to transmitting force through that body, to the transformation that occurs as those principles become increasingly natural, and finally to their expression as functional internal power.
The objective is not simply to tell the student what Taijiquan should feel or look like. The objective is to make internal skill trainable, recognizable, and verifiable.
Why Four Volumes?
Internal skill cannot be acquired all at once.
A student cannot meaningfully transmit force through a body that has not first learned to organize itself. Transformation cannot be expected from principles that have not become reliable. Internal power cannot be expressed authentically by abandoning the conditions from which that power arises.

Volume I — Foundations of Internal Skill
Build the body.
Volume I establishes the conditions from which everything else develops: Song, Peng, Chen, root, central equilibrium, joint opening, structural alignment, whole-body connection, the role of the kua and Dantian, and the progressive transition from stillness into movement.

Volume II — Transmission of Internal Force
Connect the body.
Once the fundamental conditions exist, the question changes: how does force move through the body without becoming trapped, interrupted, or replaced by local muscular effort? Volume II develops the connected pathways through which force is received, transmitted, transformed, and returned.

Volume III — Transformation of Internal Skill
Allow the body to change.
Volume III begins when the student no longer needs to continually manufacture the principles established earlier. Internal organization becomes increasingly self-governing. Elastic storage becomes release. Spiral organization becomes spiral release. Listening deepens. Perception changes.

Volume IV — Expression of Internal Power
Allow organization to function as power.
The final volume examines expression without abandoning foundation. Song, Peng, root, center, elastic continuity, timing, intention, and equilibrium must remain available as power becomes functional.
The measure of internal power is not how much force can be produced. It is how much function can emerge while the internal conditions remain intact.

One Method, Developed Progressively
FOUNDATION → TRANSMISSION → TRANSFORMATION → EXPRESSION
Build the body → Connect the body → Allow the body to change → Allow the body to express
Experience the Teaching
Descriptions can tell you what a book contains. They cannot show you how it teaches.
Selected passages allow readers to experience the language, instructional depth, and progressive teaching method of the series.
